Second 2,300 ton corvette for Pakistan launched

The Pakistan Navy (PN) second 2,300-ton corvette being built by Dutch shipbuilder Damen has been launched in their shipyard in Galati, Romania.

The ship, with hull number 272, was launched on 3 September 2019 during ceremonies attended by Damen executives and PN officials led by its Chief of Staff for Personnel Vice Adm. Ather Mukhtar.

The new corvettes would be used for safeguarding maritime frontiers in the Indian Ocean region, and were ordered from Damen in June 2017. The first ship was launched on 17 May 2019 and is expected to be delivered to the PN before end of 2019. The second ship is expected to be delivered by to the PN by mid-2020.
