Indonesian shipbuilder PT Daya Radar (PTDR) launched the fourth Teluk Bintuni-class landing ship tank (LST) for the Indonesian Navy.

The ceremonies was held last 1 June 2019 at PTDR's shipyard in Lampung, South Sumatra.

The ship would be named KRI Teluk Palu (523) once commissioned with the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL).

The entire ship class was designed to transport the Indonesian Army's new fleet of main battle tanks and other armored vehicles across the Indonesian archipelago or for deployments outside the country.

Up to ten (10) Leopard 2 main battle tanks can be  carried by each ship, a big improvement over the capacity of existing assets of the TNI-AL. Two (2) helicopters can also be carried in the ship's helicopter facility.

PTDR received a follow-on contract to build 3 ship of the class for the TNI-AL on January 2017, with this KRI Teluk Palu being the last of the ordered ships.

The ships were also built with strong emphasis on national industry, with other Indonesian companies supplying their products or expertise including PT Krakatau Steel, PT Pindad, PT LEN, PT BNI and other supporting industries.
