Philippines Inducts Final 7 New S-70i Black Hawk Helicopters

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) formally accepted and commissioned seven new S-70i Black Hawk utility helicopters, marking the completion of a 32-aircraft acquisition program under the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) modernization initiative.

The acceptance, turnover, and blessing ceremony was held at Villamor Air Base, where military officials described the delivery as a major milestone in strengthening the country's rotary-wing capability. The seven helicopters represent the final batch of aircraft ordered from Polish manufacturer PZL Mielec, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.

With the induction of the new aircraft, the PAF's Black Hawk fleet has grown to 47 helicopters, making the Philippines the world's largest operator of the S-70i variant. The expanded fleet is expected to enhance the Air Force's ability to conduct troop transport, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, search-and-rescue operations, medical evacuation, and other critical missions nationwide.

PAF officials said the additional helicopters will improve mission readiness and enable faster deployment of air assets across the country's geographically dispersed regions. Some aircraft are also expected to support operations in strategically important areas such as Palawan.

The Black Hawk acquisition program forms part of the Philippines' broader military modernization effort aimed at replacing aging utility helicopters and improving operational effectiveness in both defense and humanitarian missions.
