Indonesia starts installation of VL MICA, Millennium Gun on new frigate

The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL), through the services of state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL, has started the installation of the MBDA VL MICA air defense system's vertical launching system (VLS), and the Rhinemetall Oerlikon Millennium Gun GDM-008 35mm close-in weapon system (CIWS) on the lead ship of the Martadinata-class frigate.

The photo shared to Asia Pacific Defense Journal shows that works are ongoing behind the ship's main gun where the VL MICA VLS and Millennium Gun are designed to be installed.

No further information was provided on when the second ship of the class, the KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai (332) will have its VLS and CIWS installed.

The Martadinata-class is the TNI-AL's newest frigate based on Damen's SIGMA 10514 design.
