Philippines receives 60mm Mortars ordered from the US

The Philippine Army (PA) announced that it received delivery of 40 units of 60mm mortars purchased from the US under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

Aside from the mortars, the PA also received 80 assault rifles provided as grant by the US government under the Military Assistance Program.

The PA did not confirm what model of mortar and assault rifle were received, although Philippine defense page MaxDefense Philippines mentioned that these are 60mm M224 infantry mortars, similar to those used by the US armed forces, which were ordered several years ago.

The deliveries were said to be delayed due to price escalations, funding re-appropriation, and administrative issues related to the price changes.

The PA is already a user of the 60mm M224 mortar, as well as the locally developed 60mm M75 mortar acquired in the 1970s.
