Possibility of selling India's Brahmos cruise to Indonesia explored

The likelihood of India selling the Brahmos anti-ship cruise missile to Indonesia is being explored by both countries. This is after officials from the Brahmos Aerospace Ltd. was invited and visited Indonesia’s state-owned shipyard PT PAL in Surabaya last year. Reports mentioned that the visit’s purpose was to look into the possibility of installing the said missile on ships being built by PT PAL.

The visit by Brahmos Aerospace officials was made after Indonesian government officials also visited the Indian company’s headquarters last year.

While the platform wherein the Brahmos missile was considered was not mentioned, it is believed that it could be the Martadinata-class frigate being built by PT PAL for the Indonesian Navy, as it was the only combat ship being built by the shipyard that has capacity to carry the missile.

Aside from offering the Brahmos missile, India also offering coastal defense radars, marine-grade steel, and maintenance support for Indonesia's fleet of Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30 fighter aircraft.

India also previously offered the ship-launched and land battery versions of the Brahmos anti-ship missile to Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries, as well as several Middle Eastern and South American countries.
